SINCE 1991 OUR VISION OF REACHING OUT TO NEEDY CHILDREN HAS GROWN. OUR STORY BEGINS WITH A VISION FOR LOST CHILDREN, A TRAGIC DEATH OF A FAMILY MEMBER (NAMED BENITA), AND A DESIRE TO TURN MISFORTUNE INTO A BLESSING TO MANY CHILDREN FOR YEARS TO COME
SUMMER CAMPS — Our cabins are situated in the beautiful countryside of Uriu in Romania. The Camp serves about thirty children at a time: 11-16 years of age. For the better part of the summer it is the grounds for children from our “Crisis Program”, street children, and children from various orphanages. We teach them lasting values and practical skills such as honesty, integrity, and perseverance. Using different methods such as team building games, impromptu skits tied in with Bible lessons, and problem solving projects, we strive to challenge their thinking. Most of all we care for them and provide a safe and fun haven away from the chaos and despair that they are accustomed to. We also allow churches free usage of the cabins when available.
KINDERGARTEN: OUR EFFECTIVE TEACHING STYLE IS BASED ON CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES AND OUR CURRICULUM IS REGULARLY UPDATED TO THE LATEST STANDARDS. ALTHOUGH WE INITIALLY FACED OPPOSITION, WE ARE NOW RESPECTED FOR OUR STRONG VALUES. WE GIVE DESPERATE CHILDREN AN EXCELLENT EDUCATION ALONG WITH NEEDED MEALS, CLOTHING AND A SAFE, POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT.
FAMILIES IN CRISIS: We outreach to needy orphans, single parent homes, families with five or more children, and families with an ill parent/child. We provide financial assistance for their different needs such as finding a doctor, transportation to and from medical appointments, and even covering hospital bills for surgeries. Every quarter, we distribute food and clothing to each family. We constantly update our files, to be the most efficient in providing for those that are in dire need.
CAFETERIA PROGRAM — Many of the children that benefit from these daily meals are those that qualify for our “Crisis Program”. On average we feed over 20 children after school throughout the school year. We provide wholesome meals and free counseling. Our counselors also offer Bible study groups every other week. Our goal is not only to feed the body but to nourish the soul.
BENITA HOUSES—We currently facilitate two care homes in Uriu. The first house serves girls over the age of 18 that need assistance in every day living. Orphanages provide for children up to this age but do not teach them the necessary tools for practical living. We decided this need had to be met. We help them with daily chores and train them in a local Pastry shop to teach them a marketable trade. Our second house is dedicated to foster care that currently houses four siblings. The orphanage would have separated the children into multiple foster homes but we were able to intervene and have kept the family together. Our goal is to provide a positive family environment and bring them up as if they were our own.
